Ethiopia Magical Farm: Groundwater Investigation Project
LEBIZU is pleased to be supporting Ethiopia Magical Farm, for its flower farm located in the Sendafa area of Oromia, Ethiopia, through a groundwater investigation and development study.
A reliable water supply is essential for flower production and the long-term operation of the farm. The study is therefore focused on understanding the area’s groundwater potential and providing the technical information needed to make informed decisions on borehole development.
Understanding the Groundwater Potential
Understanding groundwater potential requires more than a single method. For the Ethiopia Magical Farm project, LEBIZU will bring together geology, hydrogeology, and geophysical investigation to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the subsurface and groundwater conditions.
The geological assessment will help characterize the local rock formations and their potential to host and transmit groundwater. The hydrogeological assessment will consider the occurrence and movement of groundwater, drainage and recharge conditions, existing water points, and other relevant characteristics of the local groundwater system.
These findings will be complemented by a Geophysical survey, which will provide information on subsurface electrical properties and help identify formations and zones that may have groundwater potential.
By integrating the three lines of evidence, LEBIZU will assess the groundwater potential of the project area more systematically and identify the most promising locations for further development.
From Investigation to Borehole Planning
The study will form the basis for recommending suitable locations for borehole drilling. LEBIZU will also provide practical drilling recommendations, including anticipated drilling depths and other key considerations based on the interpreted geological, hydrogeological, and geophysical conditions.
The assignment will include preliminary borehole design, covering important construction considerations such as casing and screen arrangements and other requirements relevant to the expected subsurface conditions. The design can subsequently be refined based on the geological formations encountered during drilling.
To support project planning and budgeting, LEBIZU will also prepare a Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for the proposed borehole works.
Understanding Groundwater Quality
Water quality is an important consideration for the sustainable development of groundwater resources. As part of the study, LEBIZU will review and assess available water-quality data from the farm and surrounding areas.
The available secondary data will be used to develop an initial understanding of groundwater-quality conditions in the area and identify any potential water-quality concerns relevant to the intended use of the resource. Where sufficient information is available, the findings will be considered against applicable water-quality standards.
A Practical Approach to Groundwater Development
By bringing together geophysical investigation, hydrogeological assessment, borehole siting, well design, drilling recommendations, cost estimation, and water-quality assessment, LEBIZU aims to provide Ethiopia Magical Farm with a practical and scientifically informed basis for groundwater development.
“The value of this assignment is not only in identifying where groundwater may be available, but also in providing the information needed to make better decisions before drilling,” said Simegnew Tadeg, Lead Water Expert at LEBIZU. “We are pleased to work with Ethiopia Magical Farm and look forward to providing practical solutions that support reliable and sustainable water development.”
At LEBIZU, we believe groundwater development should be guided by sound science, local conditions, and practical decision-making. We combine hydrogeology, geophysics, geology, and geospatial technologies to help clients reduce uncertainty and develop water resources more sustainably.
Through this assignment in Sendafa, LEBIZU continues its commitment to delivering practical, science-based water solutions that strengthen water security and support sustainable agricultural development in Ethiopia.
